deep tissue massage & postural advice

Massage

We often develop postural patterns that encourage muscles and joints to stiffen, causing aches and pains, loss of function and vitality.

Massage is one of the most effective antidotes to stress. It relaxes and revitalises the body and mind. It is a natural extension of our need to touch and be touched. Many of today's diseases may be a tribute to stress and tension. Repressed emotions, which we believe are held in the muscles of the body, can be released through the kneading and stroking techniques of massage.

Maintaining a proper posture whilst working or carrying out daily activities is an important factor relating to stress within the body. Leaning into your computer, curving your shoulders forward and twisting your mid back for prolonged periods of time, could have dramatic effects on the body. It can also affect internal organs as well as state of mind.

If the muscles are in a shortened position, they become tight and can lead to aches and pains in different parts of the body, thus creating tension and stress, or even injury within the muscles and joints.

Massage & Sport

Massage therapy is widely used in the sporting world for injury prevention, recovery from fatigue, relaxation, and to enhance performance. For most sports men and women massage is an integral part of their training regime. With regular treatment they are more able to sustain high levels of performance without getting injured.

Posture

Our bodies develop according to the way we use, overuse or abuse them. Everyone has their own unique pattern of imbalances, many of which are beneficial and in harmony with the activities or lifestyle we live. But some will be negative or excessive.

Restriction or dysfunction in one area of the body may cause specific muscles elsewhere to be overloaded and injured, as they have to work harder to compensate. Benefits of Massage

Massage therapy can provide a number of benefits these include: The above benefits all help lead to a reduction of stress related contraindications, some of which are:

What is the lymphatic system?

A filtering system for the blood that includes lymph nodes, lymph fluid and lymph vessels. It acts as the first line of defense against infections and cancer.

In each armpit there are about 20-30 lymph nodes that drain fluid from the breast. These form part of the lymphatic system that helps the body to fight infection.

The lymphatic system is a major part of the immune system. When the lymphatic system becomes blocked, lymphatic fluid builds up and stagnates, causing the entire system to become toxic.

Massage and the lymphatic system

By stimulating this system through massage, it works more efficiently, which in turn boosts the immune system, clears blockages, eliminates toxins, transports nutrients to cells and increases the metabolism.

This all adds up to the reduction of excess fluid and assists in weight reduction. As an added bonus, it also has a calming effect on the nervous system and helps relieve stress and tension.
